Once again, Calusa Waterkeeper and Keep Lee County Beautiful have teamed up to host Clean Water Week and we hope you’ll be a part of it! This week-long clean-up effort begins Saturday, March 14th and we are encouraging any individual, family, school, group, business or government entity to coordinate or participate in their own waterway cleanup. In the News Clean Water Groups Respond to Florida Chief Science Officer Florida Springs Council, Florida Waterkeepers, and Sierra Club responded to remarks by Florida’s Chief Science Officer, Thomas K. Frazer, Ph.D., regarding Senate Bill 712. The three organizations sent a twelve-page letter to Dr. Frazer detailing multiple failures of the bill to meaningfully address Florida’s water pollution crisis. Volunteer Ranger Profile Louise Kowitch - Estero Bay Zone As a child, Louise sailed and swam in the Chesapeake Bay, and it’s where she got her first paid job as a reporter & photographer fresh out of college. Around the Watershed The focus of our latest CWK Ranger meeting included forming subcommittees for testing and monitoring of different waterways along with developing a Tidal Zone Action plan. Thanks to a grant, we are moving forward with a Billy's Creek restoration plan and looking to engage stakeholders. Our volunteer Rangers also received updates about Calusa Palooza and several crucial land and waterway conservation opportunities including Eden Oaks, 4 Mile Cove, Chiquita Lock, and Judd Creek.
