Beyond the Bloom
Help expand aerosolized toxin monitoring.
Calusa Waterkeeper invented ADAM (Aerosol Detector for Algae Monitoring) to answer an important question: Do toxins from red tide and blue-green algae remain in the water, or do they extend into the air, travelling beyond the bloom?
Our first season of research resulted in a peer-reviewed paper published in Toxins. The study detected airborne toxins in most of the samples, even when there were no active blue-green algae blooms nearby.
Southwest Floridians know what the impacts of red tide and blue-green algae look like.
But while we can choose to avoid contaminated water, we don’t get to choose the air we breathe.
Your gift will help expand ADAM deployments, collect more data across Southwest Florida, and continue building our knowledge of airborne toxins from harmful algal blooms.
Together, we’re taking the next step beyond the bloom.

Why Support ADAM?
Your gift will help Calusa Waterkeeper:
- Expand ADAM monitoring across Southwest Florida, including underserved communities around Lake Okeechobee.
- Collect more field data during red tide and blue-green algae events.
- Advance the science of airborne toxins from harmful algal blooms.
- Lay the foundation for expanding ADAM to communities across Florida and beyond.
Funds from this campaign will expand Calusa Waterkeeper’s aerosol monitoring program, including deployment of the ADAM system, field operations, laboratory analysis, research, and continued development of this emerging technology.
Why Give Today?
Every dollar donated will be matched up to $10,000.
That means:
- $50 becomes $100.
- $250 becomes $500.
- $1,000 becomes $2,000.
Together, we’ll unlock $20,000 to accelerate the next phase of ADAM.
