Sugar lawsuit causes concern among environmental groups who fear EAA reservoir project delays

“I’ve heard the South Florida Water Management District say that the addition of the EAA reservoir would help reduce high volume discharges to the river 61% of the time,” said Calusa Waterkeeper John Cassani. “The state is already under construction (at the EAA site).”

Cassani said state legislators are also to blame for creating and maintaining an environment where money influences politics.

“Corporate sugar isn’t the only bad actor here,” Cassani said. “The legislators do whatever they can to keep the status quo. You can hardly blame the corporate industry for taking advantage of these bought-out politicians. You pay to play and the sugar industry has paid.”
