Research scientists make the undeniable connection between blue-green algae and the growing public health crisis
Connections are good — unless they’re not. Take the connection between algal toxins and Alzheimer’s disease.
It’s not good, but it’s real — as real as a king tide, research now shows beyond the proverbial shadow of a doubt.
On the other hand, the connection between David Davis, Ph.D., a research scientist from the University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank, and a crowd of very concerned residents who either live near water periodically poisoned by algal toxins or care about clean water in general, or both, was very good.
Davis arrived to deliver a State of Our Water address at a quarterly April meeting of the nonprofit Calusa Waterkeeper, one of 15 members of the international Waterkeeper Alliance.
