Many beachgoers are starting to make their return, for some, it’s just looking at the damage, while others are ready to get back in the water.

“We’ve gone a few times, yea, it’s been a while since we’ve been able to get down this way,” Patrick McDonald said.

He visited Bonita Beach with his family Saturday.

Although many of you are itching to get back to normal, swimming in the gulf might not be in the cards just yet.

“Vibrio is a type of bacteria that likes to be in brackish water, like warm water,” Calusa Waterkeeper John Cassani said.

Cassani said this bacteria could be deadly, especially if you are immuno-compromised or have open wounds.

“You should avoid the water, especially in the coastal areas at this time,” he said.
